The Red Magnet

By Anna shook

There was once a tiny red circle magnet. The little magnet spent his life in a little silver bucket in an office. The magnet did not know what was done in the office nor did it care. The bucket was full of paper clips and other metal objects. the office was occupied by a beautiful princess with a gentle happy voice and sometimes she reached in an took out a paper clip or two but for the most part the days pass very pleasant as the days of magnets go.

One day a not so nice woman came to the office and saw the little red magnet and asked the princess what it was doing there. The princess said she did not know as it was there when she took over the office. When the princess was not looking the not so nice woman took the little red magnet. She had decided the little magnet would be more useful to her than the princess. She took the magnet to her office but realized she had no place to put it and so she put it in a drawer. The little red magnet was sad and lonely. One, he did not have the company of all the paper clips and other metal objects and two, he missed the sound of the princess’ voice laughing and talking on the phone or to other employees that visited her in the office. Days passed and finally the not so nice woman took him out of the drawer and put him in a glass bowl with some paper clips. It was better than the draw but it was still not as nice as the silver bucket on the princess desk. The little magnet wanted to go home to the little silver bucket of paper clips and the desk of the pretty princess. As time passed the little magnet became sadder and sadder. The office of the not so nice woman became gloomy. Every time the not so nice woman looked in the draw for something she felt sad. She did not understand why having the little red magnet made her feel bad all the time. After all she wanted it and it was only a piece of junk to the princess, she was sure the princess did not even know it was gone. The not so nice woman found herself justifying every day why she kept the magnet in her drawer when she knew as she knew her own name the magnet was sad. She knew that was silly as it was just a little red magnet. It had no feelings. Finally one day the not so nice woman was overcome with guilt and took the little red magnet back to the office of the princess and dropped the magnet back in the bucket, she told the princess that the magnet missed her and left the office. The magnet snuggled down into the bucket of paper clips and other metal objects and sighed, he was so glad to be home.
